Up
North, the Algarve is protected from Atlantic lows by mountains, spoiling
the tourists with its mild Mediterranean climate, little rain and
about 3,600 hours of sunshine per year. Located in the neighbourhood
of the African continent, the day temperature of the Algarve often
exceeds 35°C in the shade during the months of July and August,
while a fresh breeze from the ocean brings a little coolness along
the coast line. During the wintertime, the temperature varies between
15 und 22°C, and spring sets out already in the latter part of
January in blooming almond trees. Although close to the gulf stream,
the water temperature is lower than in the Mediterranean Sea, declining
towards the West. |
